• 11th and 12th Grade Seminar: Studio Art

Taught by Andrew Carr

“Fine art,” said the great Victorian art critic John Ruskin, “is that in which the hand, the head, and the heart go together.”

In this course students will cultivate each of these fundamental aspects of art. Through the study of portraiture, still life, and landscape, they will develop their capacity to see, think, feel and create.

The class will move back and forth between the disciplined copy of master works, and the rich challenges of designing original art. Pieces by artists like Rembrandt, Chardin, Degas and Cezanne will provide the ideal opportunity for direct training in monochrome, pastels, and oil painting. And at each stage, the student’s engagement with the tradition will inform and guide them as they navigate the process of observing and creating beauty of their own.

In person classes held Tuesday and Thursday at St. Augustine School in Mendota Heights throughout the school year. $1500/per semester, including supplies. Formal evaluations with the student, parents, and teacher at the end of the semester. SPOTS LIMITED. Register below.
